TO THE PRIESTHOOD.
ORDINATION AT ST. MARY'S. SEVEN DEACONS ADMITTED. Two candidates for the priesthood were ordained and seven other young men were admitted as deacons by Archbishop Averill at a service in St. Mary's Cathedral yesterday morning, when the attendance was exceptionally large. Archdeacon Vv. ,T. Simkin attended the archbishop as chaplain, and the Rev. W. \V. Averill attended Bishop WestWat.jon, of C'hristchurch, who was also present. Other clergy present included Archdeacon Gavin, of Taranaki Canon C. H. Grant Cowen, Canon W. Fancourt, Canon R. 11. Hobday, Canon W. H. Kcreteno, superintendent of Maori Missions, and Canon F. Strong, warden of St. John's College. The Rev. H. Iv. Archdall, principal of King's College, preached the sermon.
The two candidates. ordained to the priesthood were the Rev. Paki Tipene, of the Maori Mission, and the Rev. IT. Fallow*, assistant curate of All Saints' Parish, Ponsonbv. Those raised to deaeonship were Messrs. €. G. Palmer. 1). S. Millar. M. G. Sullivan. H. G. Taylor, A. E. Prebble, T. P. Yokes- Dudgeon and Mane Te Paa. Mr. Palmer has been appointed assistant curate of St. Andrew's. Epsom; Mr. Prebble, assistant curatc of St. Mark's, Remuera; Mr. Sullivan assistant curate of St.. Matthew's; Mr. Taylor, assistant curate of St. Barnabas', Mount Eden; aiul Mr. Vokes-Dudgcoii, assistant curate of St. Thomas', Freeman's Bay. Mr. Te Paa will serve in the Maori Mission and Mr. Millar will be attached to the staff of King's College.
