ASSAULT CHARGE.
GREY AVENUE AFFAIR.
TWO MEN REFUSED BAIL.
4t Frankton Junction yesterday, Sydnev Dawson, aged 32, motor proprietor, and James Tait (36), motor driver, were arrested by Sergeant Moriarty, each charged with assaulting and robbing James Keith Robson of £2 in money and a wristlet watch valued at £1 01, in Grey Avenue, Auckland, last Wednesday night. Both appeared in the Police Court in Auckland this morning before Mr. W. R. McKean, S.M.
Detective-Sergeant Kelly obtained a remand in each case until December 3. Mr. L. Adams, who appeared for Dawson, made application for bail to Mr. McKean. In doing so, counsel pointed out that if unable to get bail, Dawson would have to remain in custody until the next Supreme Court sessions in February. Detective-Sergeant Kelly objected to bail being allowed either accused. "This is a serious matter," he said, and he outlined the allegations against the men. The magistrate* refused to f'.llow bail to either man, and advised Mr. Adams to renew his application later, when evidence in the case had been heard.
