HAWKE'S BAY WOMEN.

A reunion of Hawke's Bay women who are now resident in Auckland was held for the first time yesterday, when a large number met together 'at the Farmers' Trading Company tea rooms. The gathering sprang from a suggestion made by Mrs. W. H. Wilson, and she was assisted in the organisation by Mrs. Varley Hudson, Mrs. C. H. Heald, Mrs. A. Burlinson and Mrs. Garry. The guests, who numbered about 150, were received on their arrival by Mrs. Hudson and Mrs. Wilson, who acted as joint hostesses. Mrs. Wilson said that ever since the idea was mooted it had met with interest and enthusiasm. ■ The germ of the interest was the affection held for Hawke's Bay. Love of country or the district in which one spent one's youth was endeared by a thousand golden memories of that age. Mrs. Wilson stated that it was hoped that this reunion would be the first of a long line of annual reunions where friends could meet again in the spirit of happy days that were past. Reference was made to Miss A. Jerome Spencer, a well-known social .worker in the district, who had founded the women's institutes there, and as a result of her activities had brought much happiness to countless homes.

Mrs. Hudson paid tribute to the work that had been done by Mrs. W. H. Wilson and those other ladies who had assisted her and to whom all credit for the success of the afternoon must be given. The roll call of those present was then read. During the afternoon an enjoyable musical prpgramme was given by Mrs. Victor Roach, Miss Roche and Miss Jean Clarkson. Among those present were: Mesdames Draper, Hewson, A. Taylor, Bayliss, Nash, V.
