All tennis clubs in Auckland and suburbs are now open, and with the commencement of inter-club competitions next Saturday, the game for the 1932-33 season will be in full swing. There are prospects of a bright and interesting season. Competitions in the B, C and D grades will open on various courts this Saturday, but the A grade competition, in which Remuera are the present championship holders, will not commence until the following week, or perhaps even the end ot the month. .Clubs.who will play for the right to meet Remuera in the final will be Eden and Epsom, Parnell, Royal Oak, University and Campbell Park. Griffiths. Wellington Ranking System. The Wellington Lawn Tennis Association has proposals fdr the method to be adopted in ranking players this season. It is suggested that the management committee call for applications from those who wish to compete in the matches this year. When applications have been received, the first six men and the first six women will be chosen, after which it is intended to hold a series of ranking matches. Where possible, the matches will be played on Sundays, and special courts will be set aside by the association. The contests, of course, will take place on grass. Return of C. E. Malfroy. Wellington tennis enthusiasts are elated at the announcement that C. E. Malfroy, the ex-New Zealand doubles champion, and holder of the singles championships of both Islands, is returning to New Zealand, and will be playing tennis in Wellington once again. He is expected back before Christmas. It. is hoped that Malfroy's return will restore Wellington tennis to the position of superiority which she held before his departure. Malfroy has won for himself an excellent reputation in England, and has performed remarkably well. He has beaten F. J. Perry and other Davis Cup players, and his effort at the. last Wimbledon tournament, when he gave Sydney B. Wood the hardest match he played to win the title, was outstanding. If Mayfroy retains his English form he should have little trouble in winning the coming New Zealand championship. Malfroy's return will make the Wellington team exceptionally strong. Already Wellington has four men who have won national titles—N. R. C. Wilson, A. L and D. G. France, and E. A. Roussell. AUCKLAND MINOR CLUBS. The first round of the Auckland Minor Club's Hard Court Association's tournament resulted :— East Section.—Raanl beat Islington by 13 sets to 5; Park View beat Hollywood, 15—3 ; Hillside beat Alderlev, 12—6. West Section.—Avalon beat Mount Roskill by 10 sets to 8; Auckland Transport beat Tirotiro, 10—S ; Owairaka beat Highland, IS—O. The next series will be played on November 26.
