New Zealand's agreement to reduce shipments of frozen mutton" and lamb to Britain for the final two months of this year, 10 per cent below the quantities of the same period last year, was announced this afternoon by the Rt. Hon. J. G. Coates, following a consultation with the Meat Producers , Board. • Mr. Coates said he had no wish to deny the Importance of the new development. It was a drastic action indicath. of the serious position of the United Kingdom meat market. The curtailment of supplies agreed to was outside the Ottawa agreement under which the regulation of foreign supplies was to be made "effective for five yeai-s frqm January 1 next. Against the 10 per cent reduction in the New Zealand exports for November and December there should be an improvement ail*"price over the present low level, said Mr. Coates. Already some improvement had been reported. He emphasised that the Ottawa pact was not affected by the action taken and denied that any new authority had been conferred upon the United Kingdom in the direction of regulating shipments.
