Alleged Disaffection in Australian Navy. NEWSPAPER STATEMENTS. (Received 11 a.m.) MELBOURNE, this day. ' It is. understood that sensational statements in a Melbourne newspaper regarding alleged disaffection in.the Australian Navy, which are officially considered as "calculated to create insubordination," have been referred to the law officers.
LANGITES IN CONTROL. UNEMPLOYMENT CONFERENCE. (Received 10.30 a.m.) SYDNEY, this day. The Trades Hall Unemployment Conference resulted in the Lang party delegates gaining complete control. They defeated a motion for the lifting of the ban on the Communist auxiliaries, and adopted the A.C.T.U. policy regarding unemployment. The conference also demanded work at award rates or full sustenance for unemployed.
LABOUR DEFEAT. STATE BY-ELECTION. (Received 10.30 a.m.) PERTH, this day. A by-election in the North-East Province, for the Legislative Council, resulted in the return of Mr. R. G. Moore (Nationalist), beating Mr. R. Wilson (Labour) by 11G6 votes to 919.
APPLICATIONS OPEN. £8,000,000 INTERNAL LOAN. (Received 10.30 a.m.) CANBERRA, this day. Applications for the £8,000,000 loan for the Commonwealth and States will open to-day, the closing date being December 5. Interest is 32 per cent, issued at par for a term of 10 years.
CROWN LANDS. 2,000,000 ACRES OPEN. (Received 10.30 a.m.) BRISBANE, this day. Crown lands totalling nearly 2,000,000 acres will shortly be thrown open for selection. MINISTER'S HEALTH. MR. GULLETT MAY RETIRE. SYDNEY, November 6. "The Sun" says the illness of Mr. H. S. Gullett, Minister of Trade and Customs, may compel him to retire from, the Cabinet unless an immediate improvement appears. An announcement ;to this effect is expected in a few daye.
