SPRING FASHIONS.

ON ELLERSLIE LAWNS.

Fine weather drew a large number of racegoers to the first day of the spring meeting of the Auckland Racing Club to-day. With the velvet green of the grass and the splashes of colour supplied by the brilliant flowering beds the course presented a most attractive sight. Spring fashions were in evidence on the lawn and a number of charming models were to be seen. Wide-brimmed straw hats made smart accompaniment for the models of gaily-coloured silks. The favourite colours were much the same as last season, greens, reds and browns of every tone holding sway. A number of flowered chiffons were also noticed, and in these cases a wrap in a toning colour was worn. Very lightweight tweeds, accompanied by smart straw boaters, were chosen by many, and these were seen in pastel and other light tones.
