TRACK GALLOPS.
FINAL DAY AT ELLERSLIE. A QUIET MORNING. PRINCESS DOREEN SPRINTS FAST. There was not a great deal doing at Ellerslie this morning, most of the fast work being accomplished by visiting horses, several of whom put tip useful trials. No. 1 grass track was in use and the going was excellent.
The Welcome Stakes candidates, No Doubt and Midian, cantered round to the three-furlong post and ran home in 39 3-ss. They did their work well and could have gone much faster. King's Archer, who looks in excellent condition, sprinted half a mile in SO 3-ss, doing it well. If this horse reproduces his Avondale form he should run prominently. Gold Day had Blank Songster as a companion over five furlongs, which occupied 1.4 4-ss. The latter, who had -the outside running, was going strongly at the end, and Gold Day also worked well. The Mitchelson Cup candidate View Halloo was allotted a sixfurlong task, hitting out very freely. He ran the first three in 39 2-5s and completed his work in 1.18 2-5. View Halloo is working better daily and should run a great race to-morrow. Limeen and Jonathan were given useful work, but were not after time.
The . Southern two-year-old Princess Doreen, after trotting once round, sprinted half a inile in 48 4-ss. She began well and ran the first furlong in 12s, but had nothing in reserve at the finish. Gay Cockade cantered round to the half-mile post and after beginning slowly completed half a mile in 51s. This horse has done a lot of work and looks much more solid than previously. Enjoyment ran four furlongs in 50 3-ss. He has fined down a good deal since he raced at Avondale. Flying Prince, who is looking particularly well, was given easy pacing. Wait and Sea worked over four furlongs, but was not after time, taking 56 l-5s to run the distance, the last three furlongs occupying 41s. She is a racy-looking filly, and is reputed to possess a lot of pace. Town Beauty did strong work over a round, being timed to run his last six furlongs in 1.25 1-5. Other visiting horses to work were Lord Val, Te Hoia, Slump and Lucess, Novices at the Barrier. Grand Tonic, by Peach Brandy from Success, and Hushing, by Peach Brandy from Cradle Song, who are both in W. Gall's stable, were exercised at the barrier on the two-year-old track. It was their first experience and they shaped satisfactorily, particularly the former, who is a big, upstanding gelding, likely to develop into a good sort on in the season. RICCARTON TRIALS. FOG PREVENTS EARLY TIMING. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, this day. This was a very quiet morning at Riccarton. Track conditions early were very unfavourable, a dense fog enveloping the course, making it impossible to see the horses except when close up. The inside trial grass was open, but no work could be seen.
Chopin was given permission to go on the outside of the course proper, but immediately disappeared into the fog. After breakfast the sun brok"j through, but there was not much fast work done. Jael ran half a mile in 49 4-ss, Mount Boa and Silver Streak taking 50 l-ss. Sports King and Palmary did the same. Arrow Lad beat La Poupee over six furlongs in 1.15 4r5. Most horses did steady pacing on the plough or the sand. A number of young horses were exercised at the barrier.
The following are fresh southern arrivals: Merry Peel, lan's March, Denise, Tippling, Hula Belle, Arden's Beauty, Mount Boa, Silver Streak, Sports King and Palmary. PILLOW FIGHT. GALLOPS BRILLIANTLY. Pillow Fight was sent half a mile at Takanini this morning, and without being pressed at any stage, registered 495.
