SCHOOL HOLIDAY GIVEN.
OPENING OF NEW RAILWAY. The schools at Taumarunui, Taringamotu and Okahukura will have a day's holiday next Monday, November 7, the occasion of the opening of the StratfordMain Trunk railway. The Education Board to-day received a request from the Taumarunui Borough Council that a holiday be allowed. "I think that this request might be granted," said the chairman, Mr. T. U. Wells. "It is a special occasion for them down there."
A .meeting of the" Prisons Board is being held in Auckland. Mr. Justice Reed (chairman), Sir Donald MeGavin, Dr. T. G. Gray, Mr. D. G. A. Cooper and Mr. B. L." Dallard, Controller-General of Prisons, arrived in Auckland yesterday and to-day. Other members of the board are Mr. John Alexander, C.M.G., of Auckland,. and Mrs. Fraer, . of; Christchurch. ■■ .j. ■ ■ ,
