TOMATOES FROM THE ISLANDS. SYDNEY FRUIT SHIPMENT. GOOSEBERRIES FROM WAIKATO. The Hauraki brought supplies of tomatoes and other produce from Cook Islands, and shipments of Australian iruit were on board the steamer from Sydney. Supplies of mandarins were practically done and Island oranges were getting short, prior to the arrival of these vessels. Fruit from California and Fiji came to hand by the Niagara. Bananas have been in good demand, but lemons and grapefruit are still dull of sale. English gooseberries are now being sent in from the AVaikato. Supplies of strawberries are steadily increasing, and a few days' sunshine would be welcome now to ripen the berries after the recent rains. Quotations are: — Strawberries: Captain Cook, 1/C to 2/ per chip; Marguerite, 9d to 1/6: Gooseberries, 6/ to 9/ per case. Oranges: Island, repacks, 20/ per case; Valencias, 9/ to 11/. Bananas: Choice, to 25/; No. 2's and mediums, 12/ to 20/. Hothouse tomatoes: 12/ to 20/. Australian fruit: Excello oranges, 10/ to 11/6, seconds, 8/ to 9/; pines, 12/G to 20/. Cucumbers, 14/ to 15/. Pears: Nelig, repacks, 7/ to 9/6 per case; P. Barrys, 7/6 to 8/. Grapefruit: Large, 5/ to 7/; small, 3/ to 4/. Lemons: 3/ to 7/. Apples: Delicious, 6/ to 8/6; Granny Smith, 6/ to 9/; Dougherty, 4/ to 7/; Winesap, 6/ to 7/6; Stunners, 6/ _to 8/6. Cook Island tomatoes: 0/ to 7/. Grapes: Red, Californian, 28/ keg; white, C'aiifornian. 25/. Pomegranates: 11/ to 14/ case. Loquats: Australian, 6/ to 7/6. Vegetables. Supplies of cabbage are fairly heavy, but not nearly so many cauliflower are now reaching the market. Large quantities of rhubarb are coming forward, and lettuce is plentiful. New potatoes are coining in freely, and more green peas are offering. Quotations are: — • Potatoes, Southern, 7/6 to 8/6 cwt; new, H4d to I%<l lb; onions, Canadian, 18/ to £1 crate; kumaras, Island, 7/ to 8/ cwt; Tauranga, 4/ to 5/6 cwt; cabbage, 2/ to 4/6 sack; cauliflower, 3/ to 6/6 sack; swedes, 1/ to 1/9 bag; pumpkins, 8/ to 13/ cwt; green peas, 2d to 3V&d lb; beans, hothouse, 7d to 10% d lb; lettuce, 1/ to 3/ case; cucumbers, hothouse, 4/ to 9/ dozen; vegetable marrows, new season's, 4/ to 7/ dozen; cabbage, loose, 1/6 to 2/6 dozen; cauliflower, loose, 1/6 to 4/6 dozen; celery, 3d to 6d bundle; rhubarb, 1/ to 4/6 dozen; spinach, 9d to 1/3 dozen; pumpkins, loose, 4jl to 2/ each; radish, 6d dozen; spring onions, 6d to 1/ bundle; carr.ots, parsnips, beet and turnips, 6d to 1/ dozen; asparagus, 5d to B%d bundle; leeks, 2d to 5d bundle. Eggs and Butter. The position of the egg market shows no change, supplies being heavy, and prices still low. First grade hen and duck eggs are quoted 10% d per dozen, B grade 9%d. and C grade 7%d. Farmers' butter ranges from B%d to IVM per lb, according to quality. Poultry. At to-day's auctions the supply of poultry was medium, and the demand fair; The prices paid remain about level. Selling rates were as follows: — Cockerels: Heavy breeds, prime 3/6 to 5/6 each, not prime 2/ up; light breeds, prime 3/ to 4/, not prime 1/6 up. Fat roosters: Heavy breeds, prime, 1/9 to 2/6; light breeds, l/ 3to 1/9. Fat hens: Heavy breeds, 2/6 to 3/; light breeds, 1/6 to 2/. Pullets: Heavy breeds, best 2/ to 3/6, "smaller 1/6 up: light breeds, best 2/6 to 3/6. smaller 1/6 up. Drakes: Young, nrime, 1/6 to 3/: smaller. 1/ nn. Dunks: Youne/l/6 to 2/0; old, 1/ to 1/9. Drakes: Old, 1/ to 1/9. Geese: 2/6 to 3/6. Turkey hens: 4/ to 6/: gobblers, 5/ to 12/. Cockerel chick's: Heaw breeds. 6d to 2/; liVht breeds. 2d to 1/6. Day-old chicks: 8.0.. 2d to 4d; L.. 3d to sd. Ducklings: 3d to sd. Guinea fowls: 2/6 to 3/.
