WEDDINGS OF THE WEEK.
LAWFORD—BANKS. The marriage took place at St. Andrew's Anglican Church, Cambridge, on Saturday evening, of Miss Dorothy Joan Banks, elder daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Nelson Banks, of Wharenuki, Matamata, to Mr. John Curling Lawf ord, elder son of the late Mr. C. E. Lawford and Mrs. Lawford, of Edenholme, Remuera, Auckland. Roses and wistaria made a charming floral setting in the church, and officiating at the ceremony was the acting-vicar, the Rev. P. Cleary. The bride was given away" by her father. She wore a graceful gown of deep cream brocaded taffeta fashioned on princess lines, with yoke and sleeves of Limerick lace. A fashionable note was struck in the long train of parchment silk net, which was bordered with embroidered roses, and falling softly over her shoulders was a long veil of Limerick lace over 150 years old, which wa3 held to the head with a single strand of orange blossoms. She carried a sheaf of lily of the valley and white roses with maidenhair fern. Attending the bride were her sister, Miss Audrey Banks, and Miss Beatrix Monckton (Hamilton). They wore frocks of turquoise blue taffeta and tulle with wide blue sashes tied' in large bows at the back and reaching to the bottom of the skirts. Circlets of small pink roses were on their heads, and they carried posies of shaded pink roses. The bridegroom was supported by his brother, Mr. Dennis Lawford, as best man, and Mr. Hinton Colson as groomsman. A reception was held after the ceremony at Wharenuki, Hamilton Road, the home of the bride's aunt, Miss Banks. The guests were received' in the porch, which had been tastefully decorated with roses, rhododendrons and wistaria and a large wedding hell which, was suspended from the ceiling. In the dining room and drawing room masses of white wistaria, Iceland poppies and laburnum were to be seen. Mrs. Nelson Banks received in a gown of black chiffon velvet and Valenciennes lace, and a "black hat relieved with russet shades. She carried a bouquet of flowers in the same tonings. Mrs. G. Payze, the bride's grandmother, was in an ensemble of black crepe de chine and small black hat. Mrs. C. E. Lawford, the bridegroom's mother, wore a frock of midnight blue lace and georgette, with blue hat trimmed with cornflowers; Mrs. Frank Bull (Ascot, Mangere), was in powder blue lace and georgette, with blue hat to tone; and Mrs. Harold Bull (Puketutu Island, Mangere), black lace with touches of rose and a black hat. The wedding breakfast was held in the parish hall, which was decorated with bowls of roses and other spring flowers.
