A COMPROMISE.
PEACE AT LAST. Settlement of Lancashire Dispute. COTTON SPINNING. (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, October 25. The dispute in the spinning section of the Lancashire cotton industry has been settled. The terms of the settlement provide for a wages reduction of 1/GJ in the pound and the restoration of a 48 hours week. Further negotiations are being undertaken on the means of securing a maximum output. A" conciliation committee is to be set up which will include representatives of both sides, independent members and an independent chairman. The terms represent a compromise which was achieved largely through the efforts of Mr. F. W. Leggett, Labour Ministry conciliation officer. The agreement, it is claimed, will secure higher protection for the employer and in consequence better wages for the worker in spite of the cut, while the new conciliation machinery should ensure the avoidance of further disputes.
