ON THE MANUKAU.

DOINGS OF THE LITTLE SHIPS

The Manukau Senior Model Yacht Club will open its season to-morrow afternoon, when races will be held at Mill Bay, at the end of Church Street. The club extends an invitation to visitors, and the Ponsonby Club will be represented by J. Speight's three-footer Wairiki and possibly two other boats. The Orakei Basin Model Yacht Club's annual meeting will be held at 2.30 p.m. to-morrow in the clubhouse. The club will open its season on Labour Day, when several events will be sailed in the basin, which has been cleared and the water let in again. The Ponsonby Model Club will be represented by Rona, Spray, Wairiki, Dark Horse, Irene and Bullet. The Ponsonby Model Yacht Club will hold their usual series of races during this week-end. Handicap events will be run for the 3ft and 4ft classes, also races for the Winter Challenge Cup for the fourfooters, and the Victoria rose bowl for three-footers. Mr. Collings' Bullet, holder of the winter cup, will have to defend it against Rona, Irene, Bessie J. and Hono. Mr. Matthews will be called on to defend his title to the Victoria's trophy, as Wairiki, Spray and Dark Horse have each challenged. The crew of the 26-footer Spray has donated a trophy to the model club to be known as the Spray trophy. This is a good sporting action, and Mr. Mackay was thanked. Possibly other crews will be willing to donate a trophy to the boys, to be called after their yacht. .
