HENDERSON. A concert and dramatic entertainment were given by the Henderson Scouts in the Town Hall before a large audience. The programme, consisting of sketches, • playettes, slight of hand tricks, flag signalling a Jewish burlesque and instrumental and elocutionary items, was carried out under the direction of the Scoutmaster, Mr. E. Hocken, The contributors were the Henderson Scouts, the Mount Albert, Glen Eden and Leys Rovers, the Waterview Cubs, the Misses Turner, Mr. Harvey and company, and Scout H. Brittain. A card party and 500 tournament was held in the pavilion by the Henderson Bowling and Croquet Clubs, about 40 members and friends being present. The winners were Messrs. Daly and Bertimt, Mesdames Collingwood and H. Wright, Miss A. Norcross, Mr. W. Newton and Mrs. P. C. Jackson. A bazaar and sale of work in aid of the Henderson Methodist Church was held In the Foresters' Hall, on Saturday afternoon. There was a fine display of fruit and vegetables, ■ preserves, cakes and sweets, books, spring flowers and plain and fancy sewing, and other goods. Competitions for the best pastry were won by Miss Kathleen Ashton 1, Mrs. Kosier 2, Mrs. Rushton and Mrs. Ashton. THAMES. The Thames Bowling Club opened its 1932-3.'! season on Saturday. The president, Dr. J.' B. Liggins, welcomed visiting players from the Te-Arohn, Paeroa, AVaihi, Hikutaia, Coromandel and Mercury Bay clubs. He read a letter from Mr. J. T. North, president of the South Auckland Bowling Centre, who desired a policy of better understanding and good fellowship between players and clubs ol the centre, and wished to see the game played in a more sociable antl jovial spirit, and the continuance of inter-club games. He also asked for the co-operation of all clubs to make this year's centre tournament more like a reunion of players. After endorsing the sentiments contained in Mr. North's letter,-the president called on Mrs. Liggins to bowl the jack across the green and declared the greens open for play. All present then proceeded to the croquet green where, after Mrs. F. Adnmson, president, had struck the ball along the green, Dr. Liggins declared the greens open. The following games were played :— Gamble, Reddy. Peters, McGloue 10, v. Martin, Buclian. Juri., Mnckay, Liggins 14; Bohwell, Roberts, Mullins, McGonagle 20, v. Denize, Burt, Murray, Millington 15; Surrey, Lockyer, Silcock, Gibb 27, v. Hudson, Day, McCullough, Adamson 11; Mutton, Gallop, Johns, Buchan, sen. 17, v. Lockett, Wells, Watson, Winder 14; Gilmore, Currie, Wallace, Pratt 23, v. Gibb, Middlebrook, Cartwright, Elliot 20 : Briggs, Taylor, Griffin, Long 23, v. Williams, Sairaders, Howe, Strange 20 ; Reddy, Candy, McConnell, H. Cordes 23, v. Kilgour, Poland, C. Elliot, A. Robinson 16; Palmer, Petry, Peterson. Wallace 21, v. Palmer, Twentynian, Rhodes, G. Cordes 14. The Thames, K.P.S., Kopu and Tararu Tennis Clubs also held their opening ceremonies. Dr. S. Gray, at the Thames Club, referred to the sudden death of the late president of the club for many years Mr. J. H. .Lange, and the great assistance he had given to the club.
