EIGHTY TO-DAY.

MRS. JANE PEARCE, OF DEVONPORT. Mrs. Jane Pearce, of 6, Alison Avenue, Devonport, who came to New Zealand over 50 years ago, celebrated her 80th birthday to-day. Except for one trip to South Africa, she has lived continuously in Auckland. She arrived in the ship Earn mouth in 1879, and was married in 1882 at Parnell, where her husband was in business. Mr. Pearce died in 1893.

At 80 years of age, Mrs. Pearce is far more active than the average person of advanced years, and is a keen gardener. She grows all the vegetables necessary, and believes that work in the open air is the best aid to longevity.
