BUILDING THE 5.E.5. PART 1. Draw out the plans on a board full size. They are exactly half size in the accompanying diagrams. The fuselage is the first part to start on. Cut the formers A 1 to A 8 from slievt l*rtisa, using the shapes given here. These are printed full size. Now make up the two sides by pinning the longerons JH and B2 over your full size drawing, and cementing the uprights and diagonals CI, 2, 3 into plaee. If the job sticks to the board run a razor blade along underneath. Now cement the lormers Al, 2, 3, 4 into place, and then the straight cross pieces on the bottom. Work the rest of the formers in and cement the nose block A and the rudder post II into place. See that the fuselage is true and square. Cement the stringers D into place. Put in former A 8 ai'.d the front bottom stringers. Tiny model makers' pins sliould he used in making any joint that is just butted. Sometimes you can use a very light rubber band. The balsa cement should dry in about 20 minutes, and then the pins can be removed. The landing gear
real support for the motor spar E. The elevator is next made. Form the outline by heating and bending the round cane, making sure the shape is right by laying it over a full size drawing.. The front portion of the rudder outline is ooicnted right across the longerons SI. The motor spar E can now he made and the propeller bracket F2, and the rear rubber hook El cemented and bound with very fine thread into place as shown. Make the motor r»par clip F2 and cement heavily in the three places shown. The clip should just be a tight spring fit on the motor spar. Details of covering will be given in part 2_ CLUB NOTES. can now be made and fitted. Make two vee struts called G1 in the plans. These are made from hard balsa and should be sanded to a streamline section. G2, the diagonal landing carriage struts, are also made oval or streamline section. The cross brace or axle G3 is shown to have a lifting section. The method of attaching the wheels is shown in part 2. The cockpit outline is formed from 1-16 round cane. This is shaped over a flame and cemented into place. Cut the braces 1-2 and cement. Cut the tail skid memborß and cement. Now make a small L-shaped piece of wire and cement on to the rudder posts. This is the
