THE AVGNDALE MEETING.

WORK AT ELLERSLIE.-

KILTOWYN SPRINTS BRILLIANTLY

The rain which fell overnight was not sufficient to have any effect on the tracks at Ellerslie this morning, and the going was perfect for training. -'No. 1 grass was open for fast work, and pome smart sprints were recorded by horses' who are due to race at the Avondale meeting, lhe best efforts were credited to Kiltowyn, Royal Gallant, Hampton Park, .Vandyke and Psychologist. No. I Grass. Wee Musk went freely over three furlongs, but was not timed. Royal Survey worked over a round alone in 2.13 3-o. lie was not asked to do his best at any part of it. Hawthorn was given an easy six furlongs, running the distance in 1.25 1-5, doing it very comfortably. The stable mates Ruling King and Supreme Ruler finished together at the end of a similar task in 1.25 4-5. Both these horses could have done a lot better. Marching Song was going better than Bright Flower at the conclusion of five furlongs in 1.6 3-5, the first two occupying 25 3-ss. Thunderstorm was given useful work, traversing his last half-mile in 56 2-ss. Vandyke jumped off at the five-furlong post slowly,, and finished up in 1.6, the last half-mile taking .50 2-ss. Ornamental brought him home over the last three furlongs, taking 38 3-ss. Vandyke is in first rate condition, and Ornamental is also showing more promise than usual. Clontarf Bill finished in front of the Tea Tray—Taiamai filly after running half a mile in 51 3-ss. One of the best efforts of the morning over six furlongs was recorded by Royal Gallant, who ran his first three furlongs in 37 3-ss, and covered the full distance in 1.17 1-5. He will contest the Chatnpion Hack Plate at Avondale, and should give a good account of himself.

Mahkill was too good for On Approval after completing six furlongs in 1.18 1-5. Gay Broney joined them over_ the last half-mile, which he covered in 51 l-ss. Good Idea and Neil worked freely over a round, traversing the distance in 2.11 1-5. They both worked nicely, but were not out to make time. Hampton Park trotted round to the three-furlong peg, and ran home in 37 3-ss. He was full, of running at the finish. Echo Song was sent half a mile, and after running the first furlong in 13 l-ss, registered 52 l-5s for the full distance. My Money showed to more advantage than Barn-. Dance at the conclusion of half a mile in 51 2-ss. These two-year-olds worked impressively, it being their first reaKtest over ; four furlongs. Marchette strode over a similar distance in 56 2-ss, and Wee Pat beat Llanore over the same ground in 51 l-se, the first furlong being covered in 12 3-ss. Imamint was not doing her best while traversing half a mile in 545. Vilma worked a short seven furlongs, running the last six in 1.19 3-5. This filly is in first-class condition for her engagements at Avondale.- Lord. Aintree and Traced, jumped away together at the six-furlong post, and after taking' 37 -4-5s for the first half of the journey completed the gallop in 1.18 3-5. Traced kept with her companion until about a furlong from the poet, but then dropped back, and Lord Aintree was going comfortably at the end. Sister Em reeled off three furlongs in 41 3-ss. Gay Cockade did strong work .over a round, which he covered in 1.54 1-5, the last six furlongs taking 1.21 1-5, and the final half-mile 53 4-ss. He did his work well, and is in good order for his Avondale Cup engagement.

Tetrarchate and Charsong ran their last three furlongs on the tan in 42 2-ss. Tarporley was doing better than Tahae Mea after reeling off three furlongs in 38s. The former has never been better than he is at the present time. Psychologist worked Alone over six furlongs, running the first three in 38 l-ss, and registering 1.17 3-5 for the full distance. 'Now that _ the going is • firm Psychologist is shaping much better inr-hie work. The two half-brothers Kararigapai and Hunting March strode over five furlongs in 1.9 without being required to do their best. Landlubber (on the sand) did strong work, covering his last half-mile in 54 4-ss. The best gallop recorded during the morning was credited to Kiltowyn, who put up a brilliant effort over .five furlongs. He ran the first, two in 25 2-st?, and completed his task in 1.3 2-5.' He had a bit of pace on when he jumped off,, but finished up his task in great, style. Cynthia N. was doing better than Roman Mascot at the cop elusion of six furlctigs run in 1.19 1-5. Both these horses are" on the improve. Claremore ha'd fhe better of Demylus at the end of six furlongs jn 1.20. . Catoma was worked once, round on the tan track, covering the distance in 1.24 2-5,; the last half-mile taking 52 2-ss.
