BAPTIST UNION.
JUBILEE CELEBRATIONS. CHURCH'S WORK IN AUCKLAND. Baptist churches in New Zealand will next week celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of the founding of the Baptist Union. One who will take part in the celebrations will be Dr. J. H. Rush-, brooke, the general secretary of the Baptist World Alliance.
There were several Baptist churches in the Dominion prior to 1882, but they were widely scattered and there was no connection between them. In that year the Revs. C. Carter, J. U. Davis, C. Dallaston and A. \V. Webb, together with other supporters of the church, established the union, which, to-day numbers 71 churches, with 8212 worshippers. The union has 1182 Sunday school teachers, whose pupils total 8922. At Manurewa the Baptists have a children's home, and there is also a training college for ministry students. The Church Missionary Society has an annual revenue of £7000.
