ACTED IN IGNORANCE.

LAW SOCIETY PROSECUTION. CONVEYANCER FINED £1. Prosecuted by the Auckland District Law Society, A. J. H. Leach was charged in the Police Court this morning with acting as a conveyancer not being a barrister and solicitor. Defendant did not appear, but in a letter which he addressed to the Court he admitted the charge, adding thaf; he had acted in ignorance of the law. Counsel appearing for the Law Society said the society did not press for a severe penalty, but merely desired to bring the matter as a to persons who practised as solicitors without a license. "He charged £5 for drawing up a partnership agreement," remarked the magistrate, Mr. W. R. McKean, S.M., who imposed a penalty of £1 and costs £2 12/.
