A NEW STAR ARISES.
JAMES CAGNEY AT THE PLAZA.
A new film actor who lias proved exceedingly popular in America and Australia will be introduced to Aucklanders in -his first starring picture at the Plazatliie evening, when "The Crowd Roars" is given its "first night." Cagney, who was seen in a small role in Edward G. Robinson's "Smart Money," is a new Clark Gable type of player, combining the strange appeal of that favourite with the strong manliness which male audiences like to see in the film heroes of the ladies, but which seldom appears. "The Crowd Roars" is a vivid tale of motor car racing, and during a series of gripping contests the audience is sure to be thrilled by the speed and the roar of the racing monsters, by the crash of cars in collision, and the eight of smoking exhausts and blazing wrecks. A strong romance runs through the story, and this makes for a fine piece of entertainment. James Cagney's leading lady is Ann Dvorak, who appeared in the feminine lead in "Sky Devils." Supporting players are Eric Linden, Guy Kibbee and Frank McHugh. v
