WEEK-END PRICES IN SHOPS. EGGS VERY CHEAP. SOME EARLY STRAWBERRIES. LOQUATS ON THE MARKET. Early strawberries and Australian loquats have appeared on the market, but so far only in small quantities. - Strawberries sold as high as 4/2 per chip at auction. The retail price of loquats is 6d per lb. Dessert apples mow rule at 4d per lb all round and for cookers a penny less is asked. Pines are dearer this week, .prices asked ranging from 1/ to 1/6 each. Further supplies of citrus fruit arrived since last report. Oranges sell at from 1/ to 2/ per dozen, according to size, and quality. Valencia oranges are 1/6 per dozen and locally-grown marmalade oranges can be got at 1/6 per dozen. Lemons are still in heavy supply and sell at 6d to 1/ per dozen. Island tomato.es' are marked 6d to 8d per lb. Loquats are offered at 6d per lb and walnuts a.t 8d per lb. For coconuts 4d to 5d each is asked. Fine cabbage and cauliflower are still being offered at very low prices.. Celery is not now quite so plentiful. Asparagus has come forward more freely and prices range from 4d to lOd per bundle.
