MORE BEAUTY HINTS.
The treatment of blackheads and pimples was fully dealt with by Miss Kathleen Court, the well-known beauty and cosmetic specialist, at her demon-stration-lecture given on the fifth floor of John Court, Limited, yesterday afternoon. Miss Court again emphasised the point that to have a clear complexion and to keep it free from these blemishes absolute cleanliness was necessary. Steaming the face wag not a good thing to do, but if the blackheads were of long standing, tiny pads of cotton wool soaked in hot water should be placed over tho affected places for a few moments before they were gently squeezed by the. fingers covered with clean linen.
"About 75 per cent of the letters I have received," said Miss Court, "have been from women asking for further details about keeping slim." The fact that a woman was married and had children was no reason why she should put on weight. Miss Court gave a number of valuable hints on how to encourage -#fefimness, which, of course, was coupled with good health. Of all exercises, she said, walking was the best. Women should drink at least 10 glasses of water a day. This seemed a great deal, but if a woman started with a glass when she got up in the morning, another before breakfast and another after, she could easily distribute the whole number throughout the day. At least once a month, every woman should take a good dose of castor oil—not less than two tablespoonfuls. This statement brought forth a murmur of distaste from the audience, but Miss Court assured them that without the elimination of waste matter slinmess could not be hoped for. Through constipation women could put on weight to the extent of two or three pounds a week. "Alcohol, even the mildest cocktail, is really very fattening," said Miss Court, "and it is also a bad habit to drink anything at all with your meals."
A number of exercises, particularly ones valuable for constipation, were given by the lecturer. Touching the toes, she said, was old-fashioned, but very effective. The exercise of holding on to a chair and swinging one leg. as ifar as possible backwards and forwards was excellent for reducing the liips. The art of make-up was demonstrated on a model, who afterwards went among the audience for inspection, and charts detailing a choice of cosmetics were.again given to those who applied for them.
