LAUNCH BETH.
TRIP ACROSS TASMAN. MAY OMIT NORFOLK ISLAND. NOW FIVE DAYS OUT. The Auckland launch Beth, which left Whangaroa last Sunday on the first stage of her journey to Australia, is now five days out, and so far has not been reported at Norfolk Island, where it was intended to call. Before leaving Whangaroa Mr. T. H. Webb, the owner of the Beth, said that in the event of rough weather at Norfolk Island he would go direct to Lord Howe Island, which he estimated would take seven days in moderate weather from Whangaroa.
Since the Beth sailed the weather has been fair and it is expected that good progress would be made. The Burns, Thilp steamer Morinda, which arrived at Auckland from Norfolk Island this morning, did not "speak" the Beth on her run to this' port. A good look-out was kept, but the officers saw nothing of the launch. At Lord Howe Island the steamer landed a quantity of benzine to be picked up by the launch. Between Norfolk and Auckland tho Morinda experienced a fairly heavy swell.
