WELLINGTON, this day.

Tflie numiber of apprentices employed in skilled trades in April, 1932, was 6910, a decrease on tihe previous year of 1181. In 1928 the number was 10,227.

The annual report of the Labour Department states that numbers of applications have already been received under last session's amending legislation for the suspension or cancellation of contracts, and that relief has been granted in* the majority of cases' by amending the contracts with a view to rationing , the work available, or by suspending the contracts for certain periods. In very few cases, the report states, has cancellation of the contracts been ordered.
