LEAGUE BUDGET.
Sir Thomas Wilford Urges Need Of Economies. HIGH COST OF LIVING. GENEVA, October 2. At Saturday's sitting of the Budget Committee of the League of' Nations Sir Thomas Wilford (New Zealand) vigorously advocated a reduction of the higher salaries, but no interference with lower ones owing to the cost of living at Geneva, As an instance he said butter was 2/6 a lb. There were 1020 permanent and 200 of the League. New Zealand was astounded at some of the salaries paid. Sir Thomas said the League's expenses had been greatly increased owing to Geneva being fertile soil for fads. Idealists all over the world were sending suggestions for the regeneration of the world. The delegates were not blameless. STRESA CONFERENCE. REPORT TO GENEVA. | (Received 11 a.m.) GENEVA, October 2. The European Commission of the League of Nations received a report from M. Bonnet, president of the recent Stresa Conference, outlining the project for aiding the Danubian countries, especially as regards the disposal of grain production. Captain Eden (British Under-Secre-tary for Foreign Affairs), on behalf of Britain, repeated the reservations concerning the proposed common pool from which a subsidy was to be provided. The commission embodied this and other reservations in the minutes, and passed a resolution declaring that the report contained the essential elements of a policy to restore the countries of Central and Eastern Europe. The commission is submitting all the documents to the Council of the League and to the Preparatory Committee of Experts for the World Economic Conference.
