ROWING
NORTH SHORE CLUB. Although the past year was a difficult one, the season's results exceeded expectations, states the report to be presented at Thursday's annual meeting of the North Shore Rowing Club, which holds its diamond jubilee this season. The club was represented at all the regattas held in the province and proved more successful than was generally anticipated, owing to the light maiden fours crew. Auckland provincial championship certificates were won by the maiden fours, youths' fours and junior double sculls. A. E. Cotes, L. B. MeCallum and C. Oliver were selected to represent the province. The club records its thanks to Mrs. R. F. Bennett for donating the Bennett Memorial Shield. The first race for the trophy resulted in a dead-heat between Auckland and North Shore. The club was ■successful in winning the Smith Shield for the third time in succession. The other trophies controlled by the club were won as follows:—Auckland, the Powley Memorial and Mcllwraith Cups' Waitemata, the Barrett Cup; West End, the J. B. Hislop Cup. More interest was taken in the club races than in the previous season, and new members were particularly successful. The club records with regret the deaths of the president and life member, Mr. D. \V. McLean, and of Messrs. R. Logan and W. 11. Wynyard. The balance-sheet shows that the club commenced the season with an overdraft of £50, which had increased by £16 to £7_, due chiefly to the fact that regatta donations won were approximately £40 less than in the previous season, and certain items of expenditure cover two seasons.
