STOLEN DURING RIOTS?
ATTEMPT TO SEI<I< GOODS. LABOURER SENT TO GAOL. A charge of stealing a pipe, lysol, milk of magnesia, throat tablets, and soap, valued at £1 5/, belonging to some person unknown, was admitted by Thomas King, aged 50, labourer, in the Police Court this morning. Detective-Sergeant Kelly said King had tried to sell the articles in a cafe in Victoria Street on Saturday night. He was later arrested by Detective Brady and was found in possession of the articles. "King's last sentence was for theft during the riots," said Mr. Kelly. "These articles might be some of the stuff he stole then." King asked for a. chance, but the magistrate reminded him that he had 27 previous convictions and sentenced him to 14 days in gaol.
