REVOLVER WITHOUT PERMIT.
CONVICTION IN WELLINGTON.
MAN WITH A BAD TEMPER.
"We look upon this case as a very serious one," said Detective-Sergeant Revell in the Magistrate's Court in Wellington on Saturday, when Norman Ledwell was charged before Mr. T. B. McNeil, S.M., with procuring possession of a six-chambered revolver without a, permit. "On his own admission," said Mr. Revell, "the defendant is a man with a very violent temper, and he has pronounced Communist ideas. . . When this class of man gets into these rages there is no telling what he may do." The detective-sergeant said that the defendant came under the notice of the police on September 20, following a disturbance at his home. It was ascertained that he had a loaded revolver in his possession, and he explained that he had obtained it from some unknown man on the wharf. He later said that he had thrown in into the harbour. The defendant came to New Zealand from Australia, and was a hotel worker by occupation. He had been unemployed for some time and had been engaged on relief works. The magistrate fined the defendant £5, in default one month's imprisonment. After Mr. Revell had intimated that Ledwell had no money to pay the fine, Mr. McNeil said that he was not prepared to allow time to pay.
