FISHING SEASON.

OPENING DURING WEEK-END. Several Auckland anglers tried the Mangatangi and Mangatawhiri streams over the week-end, but did not have much luck. The best catch was five fish, while some did not get any. These streams, which are the nearest trout fishing waters to Auckland of any consequence, contain both rainbow and brown trout. There was.no rise on Saturday, even until late in the evening. The trout were bottom feeding on caddis. The heaviest fish taken weighed 2Alb. At present the road to the head of the Mangatawhiri stream is in good order. At the headwaters the streams are narrow but deep,..and can-be easily,: fished. 1
