Two Lives Lost At Church Picnic Party. RESCUERS' HEROIC EFFORT. ' SYDNEY, October 2. The first bathing tragedy of the season occurred yesterday at Scarborough, on the south coast of New South Wales. The victims were: Jack Stanton, aged 22, and James Tomlinson, aged 16, of Wentworthville. Rita Tomlinson and Geoffrey Harper, -who took part in the rescue efforts, nearly lost their lives and were taken from the water in a semiconscious condition. Both are recovering. Deceased and the other two were members of a church picnic party enjoying a day at the seaside. They -were swimming when they were carried out to sea by . the undertow. The first to get into difficulties was a small boy. Stanton -and Tomlinson were drowned: in attempting to reach him.
