EMPIRE RADIO.
First Broadcast from New Station. CHRISTMAS DAY ATTEMPT. RUGBY, September 30. It is expected that the first broadcast from the new Empire short-wave station, now being constructed at Daventry by the British Broadcasting Corporation, will take place on Christmas Day. An effort will be made to transmit part of a Home programme round the world. ■ The tests of the station will be begun in a few weeks, but the complete service will not be established until next year. The decision to construct this wireless station for broadcasting thr-oughout. the Empire was made known 10 months ago. The estimated cost, is £40,000, and the. maintenance cost £42,000 a year.
