STABLE AND TRACK NOTES.

DEATH OF. LADY DOON. The Ellerslie trainer D. P. .Moraghan had the bad luck to lose the two-year-old hlly Lady Doon, who died as the result of internal trouble a few days ago. Lady JJoon had only recently been acquired by Moraghan and was a half-sister to Master Doon, who won numerous races for the trainer mentioned. RELATED TO PADDON. Chang, who figures in two evente on the first day of the Avondale meeting, is a six-year-old gelding by Day Comet from Lady Frisco, and is a half-brother to Paddon. This novice has only raced once, running unplaced, but he has been in work throughout the winter and should be well forward in condition. Chang is owned by his breeder, Mr. Geo. Seifert, who also raced his full-brother, White Comet, with considerable success some seasons ago. KILTOWYN IN GOOD FETTLE. Although not engaged at Avondale next month, Kiltowyn is in regular work a headquarters and is one of the best-condi tioned maidens seen here for some time. His track work has been very encouraging, and providing he displays the same speed when he goes to the post he will be a tough proposition in maiden company This three-year-old has been given every opportunity to come good by his owner, Mr. D. Potter, who looks like being fully advanced before the season is much further advanced. LIKES SOFT GOING. Vandyke has not won a race since he scored in the Titirangi Handicap at Avondale last April, but he has been working well and is in great heart at the present time. This horse is engaged in the Henderson Handicap, to be run at Avondale on October 15, and providing he trains on well in the interval he must be given more than an outside chance. Vandyke has always run his best races when the sting is out of the ground, therefore, if these conditions prevail at the coming meeting it will assist him considerably. DISPLAYED USEFUL FORM. On several occasions last season Lady Lulu displayed useful form. She was twice successful over a mile journey, besides being placed in several other events, including a, third in the Matamata Hack Cup, run over one mile and a quarter. This nare is reported to be training on satisfactorily at Matamata and "will be seen out at the Avondale meeting next month. R. McTayish has been engaged to ride Lady Lulu in her engagements at the suburban meeting, and this will ensure her being capably, handled. TO RACE ON THE FLAT. Paddon is to be given another opportunity on the flat at Avondale, where he has been entered for the principal handicaps each day. He is also in both highweight events at the same meeting, and these races may be more to his liking. This horse has done a fair amount of racing over hurdles during the last few months, and as he is now ten years old he may find the opposition in the open handicap eyents at Avondale a trifle too good for him. However, if reserved for the highweight contests he should more than hold his own, as the class is not over strong.

RACED CONSISTENTLY. Toward the end of last season Arch Ruler raced very consistently, for he finished up by winning three of the last four races that he contested, and he should continue to do well during the present term. This hack has abundance of speed and is a very quick beginner, two, factors that will be considerably in his favour when racing over sprint distances in the future. So far Arch Riiler has not won beyond seven furlongs, but now that he has a bit of- age in his favour he should be capable of running out a longer distance. C. Morse has the chestnut gelding nominated for mile hack events at Avondale this month. HALF-BROTHER TO GOLD MAG. J. Hennah, who has done so well in Sydney with Gold Mag, has received word from the Kia Ora Stud, where Kahumanu is located, that she has foaled a colt to the imported Hurry On horse Caledon. The youngster is a half-brother to Gold Mag and Jaquette. Caledon is out of Wet Kiss, and is thus a full-brother to the Derby and Leger winner Coronach, while he is also a very close relative, practically a full-brother in blood, to Mr. John Donald's Captain Bunsby, who> is by a son of Hurry On in Captain Cuttle, put of Wet Kiss. Wet Kiss is by Tredennia, and this particular family has been very prominent in England this season. RETURNING TO FORM. When Statuary ran second to Teller in the Marangai Handicap at Wanganui it was the best effort registered by the Woodville-trained gelding tor some months, J and he is evidently returning to form again. Statuary's last success was recorded in the Timi Kara Handicap at Otaki last June, in which event he carried the minimum and accounted for some good handicap horses. He is due to race on the same course again next week, where he figures in the Ling Memorial Handicap, run over one mile and a quarter. He has previously won over ten furlongs, and under his light impost of 7.5 is likely, to the top-weights busy if he goes to the post. 1
