NAVY LEAGUE BALL.

A brilliant scene was presented at the Peter Pan Cabaret last evening when a ball was held by the Auckland Navy League for naval officers and their wives. Gaily coloured flags were used for decoration, being suspended in waving lines around the dance floor, while further touches of colour were supplied by multi-coloured balloons. These clusters of balloons were released later in the evening and added to the fun. Graceful palms, which were set in the entrance and at each corner of the room, and more flags, which were arranged across the walls, made a striking setting for the naval uniforms worn by a number of the men and the pretty colourings of the frocks. A novel feature of the ball was the presentation of a naval tableau, which took place at 10 o'clock. Miss Althea Parker represented Britannia, Mr. R. Hudson King; Alfred, Mr. John Gordon Sir Francis Drake, and Commander W. J. Connors Lord Nelson. The characters were introduced by Britannia, and each in turn made a suitable speech concerning the character represented. The costumes worn were particularly fine, being correct in every detail, and the tableau was received with rounds of applause. On arrival the guests were received by Paymaster-Captain H. C. Cunliffe Parker, president of the league, and Mrs. Parker, who wore a frock of floral chiffon in tones of beige and rose, and by Commander W. J.
