AUCKLAND CHESS.
SIMULTANEOUS EXHIBITION. Mr. M. E. Goldstein, who was chess champion of Middlesex (England) for four years, and champion of New South Wales twice (1930 and 1031) is at present on a visit to New Zealand. A few weeks ago hs played simultaneous chess at the Auckland Club's rooms, IS tables being manned. He won 15 games, drew two, and was defeated at one table. Next Saturday lie lias agreed to play simultaneously all comers, whether members of the club or not, at the Chess Club's rooms. All exponents of the frame are invited to take part, provided they bring their own boards and chess men. Mr. Goldstein played for the London Chess Club in three telegraph matches— against New York, Washington, and Chicago. He is joint editor of " Modern Chess Openings," the fifth edition of which has just been issued in London.
CHAMPIONSHIP GAMES,
The first round of the final games in the Auckland Club's championship, played this week, resulted in Maddox defeating Addis and Jones drawing with Sullivan. Pickett drew a bye.. The aggregates are:—Jones 12, Maddox 11%, Sullivan 10%, Pickett 9V&. Addis 9%.
