BIRKENHEAD COUNCIL.
The Birkenhead Borough Council met on Wednesday, the Mayor, Mr. G. Mills, presiding. Standing Orders Reviewed.—Discussion took place on the amendment of standing orders, as a consequence of a motion by Mr E J. Sinel. A committee was set up, consisting of the Deputy Mayor, Mr. G. B Hewson, Mr. H. A. Campbell, Mr. J. Prickett, and Mr. E. J. Sinel. The committee will also devote some time to the straightening out of some of the by-laws. Mr. Sinel said he was anxious first of all to have a clause incorporated in the standing orders, which would compel the chairman of a meeting to deal with irregularities and breaches of the rules as they were committed. Pontoon for Bathers.—The Devonport Ferry Company undertook to give attention to the provision of a pontoon for the use of bathers at the Birkenhead wharf basin. Water Meter Readings.—Water meters in the borough are to be read quarterly instead of half-yearly, and water supplies are to be disconnected if accounts are not paid within 14 days of the rendering of an account. Water supplies are also to be cut off where no satisfactory arrangements are come to for the paying of arrears of rates. Deputations.—Deputations would "be welcomed, said the Mayor, when the question was raised. He was willing to see anyone or any number of people who wished to see him on any question of borough interest.
