NO AGREEMENT.
IRONMONGERY WORKERS. EXISTING AWARD TO LAPSE. The adjourned meeting of the employers and workers concerned in the wholesale ironmongery trade was resumed this morning, but no agreement was reached. Mr. P. Hally, Conciliation Commissioner, presided at the meeting. After consideration had been given to the clauses relating to wages and hours of employment, the commissioner intimated that in his opinion it was useless to proceed further in an attempt to arrive at a complete agreempit. With tWs the assessors agreed. The proposal that the matter should be referred to the Arbitration Court, as provided by the amended legislation, was submitted, but there was not a sufficient majority in favour. As a consequence, the present award will lapse after a period of 30 days from the first meeting of the council, September 6.
