GISBORNE TRANSPORT.

MODIFICATIONS POSSIBLE.

COMMISSIONER'S LETTER. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) GISBORNE, Thursday. An indication of possible modification of the transport conditions recently laid down by the local licensing authority is contained in a letter, which has been received by the Chamber of Commerce from the Commissioner of Transport, Mr. J. Hunter, who has agreed to meet the committee of the chamber and discuss various questions previously raised. Pending the decision of the Minister on the proposal to form a separate district, comprising Gisborne and Wairoa, the commissioner proposes to discuss, three main points relating to services between Gisborne and Napier. These are: —(i) Co-ordination services to eliminate unnecessary mileage; (2) reduction of fares; (3) recommencement of service from Wairoa to Gisborne. The Department, according to the commissioner's letter, has certain definite proposals to make, and it is felt that a conference would enable an agreement to be reached, and necessary adjustments to be laid before the licensing authority, at the earliest possible moment.
