Mrs. A. D. Campbell presided .over the meeting of ' the board of directors of the Y.W.C.A. on Monday, when Mesdames Rudd, Wilson, Derrick, Murdoch, Henderson, T. Clark, Burnett, Johnson, Mcintosh, Comes, Mitchell, Daniells, Gavey, Bertram, Edwards, Blott, O'Halloran, Dr. Rowley, the Misses Tilsley, Lynn and Marrett were present. Apologies were received from Mesdames Kasper and Smith and Misses Gordon, Wood and Carnachan. The meeting was preceded •by a short service of consecration led by the Rev. Wilna Constable. Correspondence included the 'information that Miss Doris Gavin, M.A., of . Y.W.C.A. of India, would not be able: to visit Auckland and that the association had not participated in the grant for work among unemployed made by the Bank of New Zealand. The secretary's report stressed affairs that had been put into action as a direct result of Miss Stevenson's suggestions. A women's auxiliary had been formed with Mrs. Webster as chairwoman, which has as its aim the forwarding of the work of the association by spreading interest and raising funds for its maintenance. The opportunity school for unemployed girls' and the daughters of unemployed had been commenced with an enrolment of about 50 and an average attendance of 25 at the classes. Response to requests for 'help in the way of tuition, concession fares, and materials had been most encouraging.- The business and professional women's round table club had had its first dinner,* when 60 members were present and an address by Mr. Stevens, M.A., had been given on the present economic situation. The girl membership had held various functions in connection with the mile of" pennies campaign. Congratulations were extended to
the third grade G.C. basketball team, .which won the knock-out tournament on Saturday, September 17. Visitors to the association had included Miss Margaret Begg, Dunedin, and Miss Robbie, general secretary of Y.W.C.A. Kingston, Canada. On the recommendation of the house and hostel committees it was decided to try the plan of having laundering from the main building done_ at the •hostel. Holiday house tariff is to be reduced to £1 and upwards, and the holiday house birthday party date was fixed for Saturday, December 3. A revised list of the personnel of standing committees, as recommended by the executive, was approved and it was decided that board members should entertain committee members and all voluntary helpers on the afternoon of October 2(5, when convention reports woijld be given by delegates. A tentative date for the garden party was fixed for November 19. Mrs. Wilson expressed the good wishes of the board to -those members setting off for the convention.
