A pageant, directed by Mrs. E. Kaspar, Auckland district president of the W.C.T.U., was held in the Y.W.C.A. assembly liall last evening, when the history of the Women's Christian Temperance Union was portrayed in song and story. Prior to the commencement of the pageant, Mrs. Kaspar extended a cordial welcomt to the delegates who had arrived in Auckland to attend the district convention which commenced today, and' also presented to the Auckland district branch a handsome banner in blue and white, the W.C.T.U. colours, and inscribed with the union motto,. "For God, Home and Humanity." Nearly all the branches in 5(3 countries of the world were represented on the stage last evening, and Britannia was the central figure. Also represented were the 28 other departments, apart from temperance work, which is the main object of the union, and the audience were able to realise the extent of the union's activities. There were some excellent voices in the pageant, and a number of fine solos were sung. Some of the solos were taken from the union hymnal and others liad been composed by Dr. Jeanie Craig, who conducted the musical part of the entertainment. The acting of the various scenes was also very good. Mre. Kaspar successfully took the part of the world's president and others in the cast, also by skilful interpretation, made the whole pageant a success.
