BENEFIT OF DOUBT.
WOMAN CHARGED WITH THEFT. Charged with stealing a "tablecloth valued at 2/0, on August 19, Olive Mavis Peters (33) appeared in the Police Court to-day, pleading not guilty. Evidence was giv.en by a porter employed in a city hotel that a tablecloth was stolen from a room in the hotel on the afternoon of August 19. Witness identified two pieces of a tablecloth, which had been cut in two, as the one which had been taken. On one end was the laundry number 49, and on the other the name of the hotel. Mrs. Peters had come into the hotel for a drink, and on a previous occaeion had told . witness that she was keeping an apartment house.
Mrs. Peters gave evidence and denied the charge, adding that only recently she had told a boarder to leave after lie had brought some stolen property to her house. The magistrate said there a doubt about the matter, and dismissed the ctarge. H .... •.
