PUKEKOHE SIDE SCHOOL
" PARENTS WANT IT RETAINED. On the advice of its inspectors the Auckland Education • Board intended to close at the end of the year the Pukekohe West side school, which has an average attendance of 21 children, all in the lower classes. A deputation irorn the district waited on the board this morning and asked that the decision be reconsidered. The deputation pointed out that the children were all very young, and if the side school were closed they would have to travel to other schools from two miles to two miles and a half distant, along roads where there was busy motor traffic. The idea of the inspectors was that the children would get better facilities if they were sent to the larger schools, but the deputation said the parents were quite satisfied with the way in which the children were now being taught. The board discussed the matter and Mr. J. Paterson, member for the Pukekohe district, gave notice of motion to rescind the resolution to close the school. He said lie thought the deputation Had a eood case, and pointed out that tuere would be a good deal of danger if the little children had to walk two miles and more along a road where motor cam were plentiful and where there were no footpaths.
