ASPARAGUS ON SALE.

Supplies of grapes and grapefruit came to hand yesterday from California, and to-morrow there will be a shipment of fruit from Australia. Oranges and mandarins arc in fair demand, and apples are meeting with ready sale. Local lemons, pears and grapefruit arc slow of sale, and the same applies to tree tomatoes. Hothousegrown tomatoes, of which supplies were small, realised tail' values. Good Island tomatoes are in short supply. Ripe repacked bananas met with good demand. Quotations are: — Apples: Delicious, C/ oto 8/0; Granuy Smith, 7/ to 8/6; Munroes, 6/6 to 7/6; Doughertys, 4/ to 6/; VVinsaps, 0/ to 7/6; Stunners, 7/ to 8/; Pride of Australia, 0/ to 7/. Pears: Coles and Nelis, 6/ to 8/. Grapefruit: Large, 4/ to 6/; small, 2/ to 3/. Oranges: Island, according to count, 15/ to 17/; Australian navels, 9/ to 12/; common Sydney, 0/ to 8/. Mandarins: 8/ to 9/. Pines: 12/ to 17/. Passions: Australian, 6/ to 7/. Lemons: 3/ to 6/. Tomatoes: Hothouse, up to 1/3 lb; Island repacks, ripe, 12/ to 15/ case. Tree tomatoes: 3/ to 6/; Black, 6/ to 8/. Bananas: No. 1 repacks, up to 18/; No. 2 and medium, 8/ to 14/. Californian grapefruit, 39/ per cask. Red Malaga grapes, 32/0; white grapes, 30/; and Red Emperors, 35/. New Potatoes Dearer. New potatoes were in short supply today, and prices advanced. The first of new season's asparagus came to hand and realised from 1/ to 1/9 a bundle. Island cucumbers brought 5/ to 6/ per case. The market is still over-supplied with cabbage and cauliflower, also kumaras from Tauranga. There are very large quantities of pumpkins offering. Hothouse-grown cucumbers and runner beans are still coming to hand. Quotations are: — Potatoes. Southern, 7/6 to 8/6 cwt; new, VAd to 4%d lb; onions. Canadian, 30/ to 33/ cental; local, 14/ to 15/ bag; kumaras. Island, 8/6 to 9/6 cwt; Tauranga, 4/6 to 5/6 cwt; cabbage, 1/ to 4/ sack; cauliflower, 1/ to 3/6 sack; swedes, 1/ to 1/9 bag; pumpkins, 2/ to 5/ cwt; green peas, 6d to 7d lb; beans, hothouse, 8d to l/ 3 lb; lettuce, 1/ to 7/ case; cucumbers, hothouse, 4/ to 7/ dozen; vegetable marrows, 1/ to 3/ dozen; cabbage, loose, 6d to 1/6 dozen; cauliflower, loose, 6(1 to 2/6 dozen; celery, 6d to 2/9 bundle; rhubarb, 2/6 to 5/6 dozen; spinach, 9d to 1/6 dozen; pumpkins, loose. 4d to 1/ each; spring onions, 6d to 1/3 bundle; radish, 6d dozen; carrots, parsnips, beet and turnips, 5d to P-d dozen; Brussels sprouts, 2M<\ to 4d lb; leeks. 4d to 8d bundle; chokos, 8d to 1/3 dozen. Eggs and Butter. Prices for eggs continue to rule very low, as supplies are ahead of the requirement of the market at the present time. Quotations are:—First grade hen and duck eggs, lOVid per dozen; B grade, 9VS:d; and C grade, 7'/&d. Farmers' butter ranges in price from 8d to lid per lb. Poultry. At to-day's auctions the supply of poultry was medium, and the demand was fair. The prices paid remain level, with the exception of old hens, which fell slightly. Selling rates were as follow: — Cockerels: Heavy breeds, prime 3/ to 6/ each, not prime 2/6 up; light breedß, prime 3/6 to 4/6. not prime 2/6 up. Fat roosters: Heavy breeds, prime, 2/6 to 3/6; light breeds, 1/0 to 2/0. Fat hens: Heavy breeds. 2/9 to 4/; light breeds. 2/3 to 2/9. Pullets: Heavy breeds, best 3/6 to f>l, smaller 2/ up; liuht breeds, best 3/6 to 5/. smaller 2/ up. Drakes: Young, prime, 2/6 to 3/6. Ducks: Young. 2/ to 3/; old, 1/3 to 1/9. Drakes: Old. 1/3 to 1/9. Geese: 2/0 to 3/6. Turkey hens: 5/ to 6/0: gobblers. 7/ to 12/6. Cockerel chicks: Light breeds. 2d to 4d. Day-old chicks: 8.0.. 4d to 8d; L., 4d to Bd. Guinea fowls: 2/6 to 3/6.
