IMPROVING AIRWAYS.
British Plan for Services in Africa. BEIT TRUST FUND. (British Official Wireless.) (Received 12 noon.) RUGBY, September 2. Immediate effect is being given to the provisions of the Beit Trust under which £50,000 is to be devoted to the improvement of air communication in Africa. Over £10,000 has already been earmarked for immediate tasks in Northern and Southern Rhodesia along the route followed by Imperial Airways in their flights with passengers, mails and freight over the Cairo and Capetown sections of the air mail which connects South Africa with England. The immediate work includes the provision of new alighting grounds and the enlargement and improvement of existing aerodromes. Careful attention is being paid to improving the facilities for wireless communication between aircraft and land stations, and also to development of the telephone service between air stations or between aerodromes and towns, or cities.
