THE BATTLE.

It is night—a darkj silent nightnothing stirs the heavy wleoce, & Ahrfll Whistle .is heard, loud W <$*&* Thtito (tome*, noise, of running feet—hurrying retracing as if it werie a mutter of life or death—two dark, • shadowy figures can be seen racing across \an open stretch, then gloom swallows them up again. Then comes * murmur of angry voices and suddenly ft baffled ajhliek ... ft thud is heard, and for a -moment there, is silence —an ominous ailencc. Then a dark figure comes racing back, along the shadowy path —alone. It runs furtively, looking"hehind now and then to see there is nothing following. HM otto looked closely one would have seen the victorioxts smile on his dark face. A robbea-y 1 1 heat you. murmur. Or evcp.a murder? Some criminal who has bested his companion, stolen his poises-J sions and left him to die? No! no! my friends! Nothing so grflesotiie. Merely my brother and I having our usual fight for the Saturday night "Star Twinkles!"
