CLEAN SWEEP OF HATS.
WHILE COURT WAS SITTING. MAGIC OF MAGISTRATE'S NAME. JEWISH WITNESS LUCKY. (By Telegraph.-—Own Correspondent.) CHRISTCHURCH, this day. While a lengthy and rather tedious civil case was occupyrng the attention of most of the people in the Magistrate's Court yesterday, a daring thief entered the building, and, seizing an opportunity when the long corridor- was empty, made a clean sweep of the hatracks. He made away with at least six hats, including that of Mr. H. A. Young, S.M., which he took frotn the magistrate's private room, but later abandoned it when he found that the name was clearly stamped inside it. One of the hats stolen was a new one, which Mr. A. W. Smithson bought only yesterday. Mr. J. D. Hutchison, another loser, bought his last week. Two witnesses and a pressman also lost their hats. The only party to the case who did not suffer a loss was Mr. M. Hollander, who had his hat in Court with him, as he wore it when taking the oath.
