TE AROHA JOCKEY CLUB.

THE ANNUAL MEETING. FEES PAID TO OFFICIALS. The president, Mr. R. L. Somers, occupied the chair at the annual meeting of members on Wednesday evening, the attendance including sportsmen from all parts of the district, Morrinsville, Matamata and Auckland. The chairman said members were to be congratulated on the result of the last race meeting, which was one of the best ever held in Te Aroha. The attendance of the public was large, and the quality of the competing horses could not be surpassed. They had taken a risk in allotting £3450 in stake money, but the action had been fully justified. No heavy expenditure would be necessary this year, and the matter of finance would receive the very careful consideration of the committee. The new course had been highly commented upon by leading owners and trainers. Members could rest assured that the club's interests would be fully safeguarded by the committee. Mr. J. Pohlen referred to the amounts paid to course officials, who, so far, had not experienced any cut in their remune...tion. He proposed that it be a recommendation to the committee to reduce the amounts paid, or have some of the positions filled by honorary officials as previously.

The president said the matter had already come before the committee, who would give it further consideration. The chairman said the cost of horse conveyance to meetings was still high, and an v effort should be made to obtain a reduction in the freight charges. . The election of officers resulted as follows:—Patron, Rt. Hon. J. G. Coates; president, Mr. R. L. Somers; vice-presi-dents, Messrs. J. B. Johnson, R: Burke and P. Bains: committee, Messrs. F. I. Hunt, G. McGlashan, F. T. Rowe and J. Kenny (non-retiring members), and Messrs. E. J. Aislabie, G. P. Goodfellow, J. A. Hepburn: lion, secretary and treasurer, Mr. J. P. Somers. I
