STOCK EXCHANGE * PRICES. (British Official Wireless.) (Received 12.30 p.m.) RUGBY, September 1. The rise in gilt-edged securities, which has been a notable feature of the London Stock Exchange market since the Treasury announcement regarding the forthcoming repayments of the 41 per cent war loan and the 4% per cent Treasury bonds, continued to-day. All opened at higher levels and improved further in subsequent dealings. AID FOR WELSH COAL. CANADIAN DUTY ON U.S.A. (Received 12.30 p.m.) OTTAWA, September 1. It is understood that the duty on U.S. coal will be increased from 40 to CO cents. This will benefit the Welsh product under the conference treaty. ROCKBOTTOM. HERTZOG- AND DEPRESSION. (Received 11 a.m.) CAPETOWN, September 1. The Prime Minister, General Hertzog, opening the Debtors and Creditors Conference, declared: "If we have not completely turned the corner, we have reached rockbottoim of the depression."
