Jewellery Thief Caught .in
Daylight Raid.
INCIDENT IN SYDNEY.
SYDNEY, August 31
A man broke a large window In the shop of a lea-ding city jeweller in Pitt Street to-day and seized a tray on which were diamond rings valued at £800. ■
The thief rushed across the street, but was impeded by the heavy traffic. A postal detective happened to be near and pursued and caught the man, who, during the struggle, dropped the tray. The rings were scattered in . all directions. Ob?,i-;ing pedestrians gathered them up for" the jeweller, who eventually discovered that many were missing.
Subsequently, Edgar Hales, 35, engraver, was charged with the theft of the rings. '<
