MORE RESEARCH WORK EFFORT,
(By Telegraph.—Press Association.)
WELLINGTON, Wednesday.
When delegates constituting the electoral committee met at Wellington to-day to consider the annual report and statement of accounts of the Meat Producers' Board, there were three candidates for the two vacancies for producers' representatives, Messrs. T.. A. Duncan, Hunteryille, James Begg, jDutiedin, and James Carr, Methven. After the candidates had addressed' the delegates, a ballot resulted in the election of Messrs. Begg and Duncan. A resolution was carried that it .be a recommendation to the board that more money be spent on research Work in New Zealand.
The importance of the careful handling of live stock while in transit to freezing works was stressed by Mr. Ihincan. Many lambs graded-as second class, he said, were put into this grade on account of bruising, which meant serious loss to farmers.
Mr. J. H. Joll, Havelock North, congratulated the board on the satisfactory state of its balance-sheet. Hβ could not see that much could be done to reduce administrative coSte. He believed there wae room for the expansion of markets in the East. Farmers of New Zealand had stood tip to the requests of their leading men'for more and more production. He was not going to say that that had benefited the farmer. At last year's meeting, there had, been talk about increased production, but they were producing more at greater cost and receiving leas in return.
