FLUCTUATIONS !N SHARES.

MORNING OPENS QUIETLY.

The first call on the Auckland Stock Exchange this morning noted a quieter tone, and only a few sales were recorded. Jfresh bidding, however, was quit* confident, and there were no signs of weakening in any section, unless it be in 4% Government stocks, which were neglected by buyers. With the end of a half-year, s%'s, March-September issue, were quoted ex interest, and the same remark applies to the 1927-41 For the first £98 15/ was offered, and for the s%'s £95 10/. In the banking section buyers for E.S. and A. moved up another 1/ to £4 5/, but this failed to attract a declaration from holders. Commercial prefs. were again asked for at £6 17/6. Standard Insurances were in request, and buyers advanced to £2 5/6, but holders stood firm at £2 10/. Buyers increased their limits to £1 z/v for Union Oils, and to £1 0/6 for River Plates. .'■, ... Kempthorne Prossers were wanted, witn buyers at £2 16/. The Noon Call. Inquiry was generally sustained at the noon call, particularly in the banking and the mining sections. on In the former, after a sale of New boutli Wales, buyers withdrew to £26 10/, with sellers now at £27 5/, an advance of 5/ on this morning. After a transaction ot New Zealands at £2 7/6 there are still buyers at the same figure. For the first time in months a parcel ot Kaiapoi Wools changed hands at 5/3. Sellers then were induced, to bid 6d beyond that price. . An indication of the firming of the metal market was the interest displayed in Mount Lyells. There were three sales at £1 1/; buyers are keen at that figure, with sellers 9d higher. Auckland Hospital Board, 1951, 5% s were quoted ex interest, and fell from £98 to £95 10/.
